Specific criteria have been identified for each of the categories. When adjudicating, the judging panel will consider each criterion in terms of (1) the quality of the strategy and its formulation, (2) its implementation, and (3) resulting impact. 

1.    Employment Equity, Diversity and Transformation Overall Award

The premier category of the Awards is Employment Equity, Diversity and Transformation Overall Award. This Award will be presented to the employer that can show the most progress made in achieving EE transformation and Diversity inclusion in the workplace. The recipient of this Award needs to demonstrate how the company has moved beyond compliance towards embracing the spirit of transformation.

2.    HR Enabling Environment Award

This Award will be presented to the employer that can show not only that its HR Environment is most enabling for the advancement of persons from designated groups, but also that it has been aimed at contributing, and has contributed significantly, to EE transformation.

3.    Diversity and Inclusion Award

This Award will be presented to the employer that shows the most progress in creating a Diversity Inclusive Culture over the past five to ten years or less, which has contributed to EE transformation.

4.     Affirmative Action Measures Award

This Award will be presented  to the employer that shows the greatest embracement of the letter and the spirit of the EE Act in the conducting of its Barrier Analysis and subsequent development and implementation of AA Measures.

5.    Change Agent Award

The Award will be presented to the EE Manager/Functionary (responsible for EE and/or Diversity transformation) who has had the biggest impact on his/her organisation’s approach and implementation to EE and/or Diversity Inclusion. Entrants whose initiatives have impacted on both EE transformation and Diversity inclusion will, depending on the impact, have an advantage over an entrant whose initiatives have been concentrated on only one of the two areas. The respective impacts on EE transformation and Diversity inclusion will be weighed up against each other where competing entries are received in respect of one or the other area.

6.    Disability Employer Award

The Disability Employer Award will be presented to the employer that has shown the greatest progress in the accommodation of Persons with Disabilities across all disabilities aligned to the objectives of the EE Act. This will include measures to increase the representivity of Persons with Disabilities, as well as the creation of a disability friendly and inclusive environment.

7.     Gender Equity Employer Award

The Gender Equity Award will be presented to the employer that has shown the greatest progress in achieving gender equity and inclusion. This category includes increasing the number of females employed, especially at higher levels (aligned to the objectives of the EE Act), as well as the creation of a gender inclusive environment.
